What is laundry stripping?

Laundry stripping is a process used to bring the brightness and materials appearance or feel back to life.

You know when you use your towels or clothing and they feel stiff and scratchy? The strip process removes detergent build-up and hard water residues, turning colours bright and making fabrics soft again.

You can find video after video on TikTok and some have gone viral in efforts to show just how amazing the results laundry stripping can be!

Laundry stripping needs several hours of soaking to get rid of leftover detergent, fabric softener, minerals from hard water and natural body oils that have collected on textiles over a period of time.

The process itself is rather long: you will leave garments to sit in a tub or bucket of hot water, borax, washing soda (sodium carbonate) and laundry detergent until the water has cooled completely, about four to five hours in total.

Also bear in mind when the process has been completed you are left with soaked garments which you will need to allow time to ring out or strain but guess what… Strucket the innovative laundry soaking bucket makes this laborious process of soaking, separating and draining a breeze!

What you will need:

  • 1 x 19L Strucket
  • ½ teaspoon borax
  • ½ teaspoon washing soda
  • 1 teaspoon detergent

Instructions

  1. Fill your Strucket bucket with hot water. The laundry stripping recipe is to be added, stir until all three dissolve completely or simple pull your strainer up and down to agitate the contents.
  2. Submerge your "clean" garments in the mixture and soak until the water has cooled, which usually takes at least four hours. Stir them occasionally by pulling your strainer up and down to help dissolve and release the build-up from the fabrics into the water.
  3. Remove your items by connecting the Strucket Strainer.
When you are ready to remove your garments simply pull your Strucket Strainer up and connect it to the top of the Strucket Bucket Base. You will see in seconds your items being removed from the water. You can walk away at this point and let your items become drip free and you’re ready to wash.
  4. Release the external plug on your Strucket.
Release the external plug on your Strucket and you will see the used water going down the drain.
  5. Wash in the Machine.
Wash your items with your favourite detergent.
  6. Line Dry.
Your Strucket strainer is brilliant washing basket and you can use it to take your “ready to hang” items to the clothes line.

It's really as easy as it sounds. Find out for yourself!
